Coffee and cake: how we raised funds for Macmillan

Raising over £25 million pounds is a mammoth undertaking for Macmillan. That’s why we are proud at Adjuvantes to support the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning – Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer.

The first ever Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective, they did it again the next year – only this time nationally. Since then, Coffee Morning has raised over £138 million for Macmillan.

Here at Adjuvantes our own modest contribution raised £144.00. We all pitched in and dug deep, and our home bakers showed off their skills with cakes to sell too. One unexpected result was that systems analyst Steve Jones was named ‘best baker’.

Apart from being a great, fun event and fund raiser though, the coffee morning helped build awareness that one in three of us will get cancer, and it will be one of the toughest things we’ll ever have to face. Macmillan’s goal is to make sure no one faces cancer alone. They provide medical, emotional, practical and financial support, as well as campaigning for better cancer care. And because cancer affects more than just those facing it, they are there for friends and family too.
